Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, was the main favorite of King Louis XV.
Jeanne Antoinette was born on 29 December 1721 in Paris. She was the daughter of François Poisson and Louise Madeleine de La Motte. [1]
Her father François entrusted her at the age of 5 to the Ursuline convent of Poissy in 1727, renowned for the education of young girls of the bourgeoisie. In 1730, her mother took her with her to Paris where she was taught the arts. [2]
