Vincent Lamar Carter was born on January 26, 1977 in Daytona Beach, Florida. He went to public and tuition based schools, starting at age 4, in Deland, South Miami and Daytona Beach. He was the first seventh grader to play on Campbell Junior High School's varsity basketball crew as a starter. Along with being the chief of Mainland High School's volleyball crew, he was said to be the most talented basketball player to grace the court at Mainland High School where he graduated with honors in 1995.
Other high school praises included USA Today, Parade, and McDonald's All-America and he was voted as Florida's 1995 Basketball Player of the Year. In 1995, Vince joined the USA Junior National Team where he played in the World Championships.
